Doncaster Update: Big Evs Dominates in Flying Childers Stakes

Big Evs Dominates in the Flying Childers Stakes

It was a remarkable turnaround for Big Evs as he delivered a scintillating performance in the Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster. After impressive victories at Royal Ascot and the Goodwood Festival, Mick Appleby’s talented sprinter faced disappointment against older rivals in the Nunthorpe last time out.

However, returning to face his own age group, Big Evs showed his true potential. Guided by jockey Tom Marquand, the 9-4 favorite wasted no time in asserting dominance from the start. Leaving his competitors trailing behind, Big Evs stormed up Town Moor to secure an emphatic two-and-three-quarter-length victory.

The triumph has now earned him a coveted spot at the Breeders’ Cup in November. Speaking about his star performer, trainer Mick Appleby expressed confidence: “Once he got ahead of them right from the start there was no doubt about it. None of them were going to catch him once he had a lead. Being upfront is crucial on this ground.”

Despite not being ideal ground conditions for Big Evs, he displayed resilience and proved himself on soft ground yet again: “He’s won races like Molecomb and now added another win with Flying Childers on soft ground.”

The disappointing run in Nunthorpe was put down to fatigue after an intense race at Goodwood: “I think that just took its toll,” explained Appleby. However, looking ahead to future challenges at Santa Anita in California for Juvenile Turf Sprint during Breeders’ Cup Day, Appleby believes that if granted favorable positioning on track it will be difficult for any competitor to overtake him.

Mick Appleby commended Big Evs’ success as an extraordinary horse and mentioned that despite significant offers, he will remain with his current owners: “Luckily, he’s not for sale. The owners have turned down big bids before, and there will surely be more now.”

The impressive victory in the Flying Childers Stakes reaffirms Big Evs’ status as a top-class sprinter. With another exciting challenge on the horizon at Breeders’ Cup, fans eagerly await to witness this exceptional talent once again.

    Trueshan Triumphs in Doncaster Cup

Doncaster witnessed an outstanding performance from Trueshan as he claimed a memorable victory in the Betfred Doncaster Cup Stakes. Retirement seemed imminent earlier in the season after disappointing performances by the seven-year-old gelding. However, with a wind operation and an extended summer break under his belt, Trueshan made a remarkable comeback on Town Moor.

Initially appearing unlikely to secure victory during the Group Two race due to his restlessness under jockey Hollie Doyle’s guidance, Trueshan defied expectations by seizing control approaching the final turn. Displaying superior stamina over long distances, Trueshan surged ahead of rivals along the center of the track.

A stern challenge awaited from John and Thady Gosden’s Sweet William who emerged from behind to challenge him near the finish line. Yet Trueshan refused to be denied and powered through to secure a convincing length-and-a-quarter win.

Paddy Power and Betfair have now positioned this 100-30 scorer at odds of 5-1 for capturing victory once again at Ascot’s Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year on October 21st.

Hollie Doyle reflected on her challenging ride aboard Trueshan: “That was definitely not the plan! He’s given me quite a ride before, but his sheer superiority enables him to triumph. He’s …”

Trueshan’s remarkable victory in the Doncaster Cup adds another chapter to his storied career. The anticipation builds as he prepares for yet another thrilling battle during British Champions Day at Ascot.
