Emily Upjohn poised for victory in the King George race

Emily Upjohn Given Green Light for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes

In a surprising turn of events, the highly anticipated news has come in that Emily Upjohn has been granted permission to participate in the prestigious King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on July 29th. The decision from renowned trainers John and Thady Gosden was initially uncertain after her impressive performance at the Eclipse last weekend.

The four-year-old filly narrowly missed victory by just half a length against Aidan O’Brien’s three-year-old colt Paddington, who had an advantage with a weight allowance of 7lb. Nevertheless, it seems that the Gosdens are eager to test Emily Upjohn’s capabilities over a longer distance once again.

Despite her previous disappointment in last year’s race at Ascot, she is now expected to make amends. Reflecting on her recent form, trainer John Gosden expressed his satisfaction: “After such an incredible race, you have to take stock. But honestly, I couldn’t be happier with Emily Upjohn’s performance. She is currently in excellent condition; I even had to canter her again quickly.”

Gosden added confidently about their plans for Ascot: “I’m pleased with how things are going so far, and there doesn’t appear to be any reason why she wouldn’t head towards competing in the prestigious King George event.”

    Possible Absence of Desert Crown:

On another note regarding potential contenders for the race at Ascot, last year’s Derby winner Desert Crown might unfortunately miss out this time around due to a setback suffered earlier in the season. Trainer Sir Michael Stoute expressed uncertainty about his readiness, stating: “It’s unclear whether we will be able to get him prepared in time for the King George. While he has returned to fast work, the timing is quite tight.”

    Impressive Mostahdaf Set for International:

In other news, John Gosden provided an update on Mostahdaf, who delivered an exceptional performance at Royal Ascot by winning the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. The talented horse is now set to compete in the upcoming International race.

Speaking with Racing TV, Gosden shared his thoughts: “We’ve decided that he will run in York’s International race where I believe he will thrive. Mostahdaf enjoys playing around before races like Stradivarius used to do!”

Gosden further explained their careful planning with regards to choosing races for Mostahdaf: “We have strategically spaced out his appearances after his victories in February and March earlier this year. He demonstrated remarkable potential during the Prince of Wales’s Stakes and emerged from it feeling fantastic; full of spirit every morning.”
