ToggleRandox Grand National Undergoes Major Alterations to Enhance Safety
The Jockey Club has recently unveiled a series of significant changes aimed at enhancing the safety of both horses and riders participating in the renowned Randox Grand National. These alterations, based on meticulous research and analysis, seek to address key concerns associated with the race. Let’s take a closer look at the modifications:
Reduced Field Size for Enhanced Safety
In an effort to mitigate risks, the maximum field size has been reduced from 40 participants to 34 – a move supported by independent research papers and internal analysis conducted by The Jockey Club. By decreasing the number of runners, it is hoped that accidents such as falls or instances where horses bring each other down can be minimized.
A Standing Start Introduced
To prevent horses from reaching excessive speeds during their approach to the first fence, a standing start will now be implemented. This means that before commencing their run, all competitors will line up ahead of marked tapes while stationary until signaled to begin.
