Gerri Colombe remains on track for King George, maintaining his position as a strong contender.

Gerri Colombe Set to Take on King George VI Chase

In a surprising turn of events, it seems highly likely that Gerri Colombe will be making the journey across the Irish Sea this festive season to compete in the prestigious Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day. After an impressive victory at Aintree last spring, Gordon Elliott’s talented horse made a triumphant return with a nail-biting win in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal just last month.

Although Gerri Colombe has the option to stay on home soil for the Savills Chase at Leopardstown on December 28, trainer Gordon Elliott is currently favoring sending him to Sunbury instead. Speaking at Punchestown on Tuesday, Elliott stated, “He’s going to work Friday morning and if everything is okay, he’s going to go to Kempton.”

The odds are looking favorable for Gerri Colombe as well, with bookmakers placing him as the 11-4 second-favorite for victory in the King George. Last year’s winner Bravemansgame is leading as their top choice with odds of 2-1 despite suffering consecutive defeats this season so far.

Allaho from Willie Mullins’ stable follows closely behind with odds of 11-2, while Nicky Henderson’s Shishkin holds strong at 6-1 for his seasonal debut after refusing to start at Ascot last month and missing subsequent races at Newcastle and Sandown.

Royale Pagaille, who triumphed over Bravemansgame in last month’s Betfair Chase at Haydock under Venetia Williams’ guidance, also stands as a promising contender with single-figure odds of 8-1. Additionally, Patrick Neville’s stable star The Real Whacker shares those same single-figure odds.

As the race draws near, all eyes will be on Gerri Colombe and his potential journey to Kempton for the King George VI Chase. With high stakes and fierce competition, this thrilling event is sure to keep racing enthusiasts at the edge of their seats.
