    The grass-court season is underway, and the world number one female tennis player, Iga Swiatek, opened her campaign at the Bad Homburg Open with a comeback win over Tatjana Maria. The Polish player came from behind to beat last year’s Wimbledon semi-finalist 5-7 6-2 6-0.

    Swiatek recently won the French Open and continued her impressive form on grass by defeating Maria. Although she has never gone beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon before, many believe that she could be one of the most dangerous players in this year’s tournament.

    In another match at Bad Homburg Open earlier today, Britain’s Sonay Kartal was narrowly beaten by former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu. Despite being ranked 264th in the world – some 213 places below her opponent – Kartal put up an excellent fight but ultimately fell short losing to Andreescu 6-2 3-6 7-5.

    Leylah Fernandez Advances With Ease

    In other results from Tuesday’s WTA tournaments Leylah Fernandez made light work of German lucky loser Lena Papadakis winning comfortably in straight sets (6-0) (6-1). While Varvara Gracheva also progressed beating Romanian Jacqueline Cristian comprehensively (6–4, 6–2). Gracheva will represent her new country of France at Wimbledon.

    Jannik Sinner Fit for the Wimbledon

    Italian player Jannik Sinner has confirmed that he will be fit for Wimbledon after suffering an injury scare last week. The world number eight retired from his quarter-final match at Halle Open with a leg injury but has since consulted with a doctor after taking some rest and said on Twitter: “Never easy to withdraw, but I had to do what was right for my body in that moment. I’ll be fit and ready for Wimbledon,”
