Brown stated, “The build-up has been smooth without any complications. We conducted some stalls work a couple of weeks ago with Craig, Jake, and jockey James Doyle present. Shaquille has proven to be a straightforward horse in training; he hasn’t caused us any problems.”
Praising Shaquille’s fitness levels during preparations for the big event, Brown added confidently that everything had gone according to plan so far: “We planned four good exercise sessions which were executed perfectly without missing a single day. His work has met our expectations.”
The assistant trainer also highlighted Shaqulle’s adaptability on different tracks: “Considering races like Newbury are somewhat similar to Haydock in terms of conditions, and Shaquille’s performance there went according to plan, we hope for a similar outcome on Saturday.”
While Brown acknowledges the unconventional nature of Shaquille’s previous races, he remains composed in the face of uncertainty. He recognizes that every horse is equally important and emphasizes the need to approach each race with a sense of normalcy.
Brown explained, “There are plenty of factors at play leading up to Saturday. We must treat each horse with equal importance. When the time comes, we can only hope everything goes smoothly, and Shaquille delivers an impressive performance as we know he is capable of doing.”
Regarding Shaqulle’s past difficulties at the starting gate, Brown acknowledged their existence and shared his satisfaction with recent home training sessions: “We have addressed this issue and taken measures to rectify it. The progress we observed during training gives us confidence that it will translate onto the track during the race.”
A Competitive Field Awaits
The Betfair Sprint Cup features a highly competitive field alongside Shaquille. Karl Burke’s Spycatcher and George Boughey-trained Believing are both set to carry Highclere Thoroughbred Racing colors; however, Spycatcher may withdraw if unfavorable weather conditions persist.
Believing has shown remarkable versatility throughout her career, winning two Listed races and a Group Three this season alone. Her connections decided to supplement her entry into the Betfair Sprint Cup at an additional cost due to her exceptional form.
“She’s very versatile and she’s very quick,” said Harry Herbert – managing director of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing – regarding Believing’s capabilities.” It looks like it’s going to be quick ground which suits her speed.”
We initially did not consider entering her into this race, but with her current form and continuous improvement, we felt it was worth taking a chance. Although the supplemental entry fee was substantial, Believing has already earned significant prize money and holds a high value.
Excitement surrounds Believing’s participation in the race as Herbert eagerly anticipates seeing how she performs against tough competition.
The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes will also provide formidable contenders for the Betfair Sprint Cup. Khaadem and Sacred, who finished first and second in that prestigious event respectively, are set to compete again at Haydock.
Khaadem caused quite an upset when he emerged victorious at 80-1 odds under trainer Charlie Hills. The talented sprinter is expected to put up another strong fight on race day.
