Insights from Trainers on the Sweet Solera Stakes

Soprano Seeks Redemption in Molson Coors Sweet Solera Stakes

Prepare yourself for a melodious showdown at Newmarket this Saturday as Soprano, the promising filly trained by George Boughey, gets another chance to showcase her talents over seven furlongs in the highly anticipated Molson Coors Sweet Solera Stakes.

Soprano kicked off her career impressively with a sensational performance in a Rowley Mile maiden race. The young horse then stepped up to six furlongs for the prestigious Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, finishing third and proving her mettle. Now, she is ready for a further challenge – tackling seven furlongs on soft ground for the Star Stakes at Sandown where she once again secured a podium finish.

Owned by Highclere Thoroughbreds, renowned for their success with Cachet’s victory in the 1000 Guineas under Boughey’s tutelage, Soprano has shown immense potential. Despite weakening towards the end of her previous run due to excess energy early on, Boughey remains optimistic about her chances given that she displayed great form during training alongside another Highclere filly earlier this week.

“She was a little bit weak late on at Sandown, having been a little bit fresh and gassy early doors,” said Boughey. “Her work has always suggested she’ll get the seven and she’s certainly worth another try at that trip on the right ground.”

    A Fierce Battle Awaits

Soprano won’t have it easy, as she shares the spotlight with Karl Burke’s Fallen Angel who finished just one length ahead of her in their previous encounter at Sandown. Additionally, Carolina Reaper, the course-and-distance winner trained by Charlie Johnston, aims to defend last year’s victory achieved by Lakota Sioux.

Roger Varian’s Jabaara is another formidable contender despite a slight disappointment at Royal Ascot; this filly has always been highly regarded and shouldn’t be underestimated. Meanwhile, Charlie Appleby’s Wild Goddess has shown tremendous improvement when tested over longer distances recently and could provide tough competition for Soprano.

“Wild Goddess improved significantly from her debut at Haydock to win her novice stylishly, and we feel that she has come forward again since,” stated Charlie Appleby. “Like most of the field, we are trying to establish our level for the season but we are hopeful she can be very competitive.”

    Other Contenders Ready to Shine

Ed Walker’s Queen’s Reign secured an impressive victory over course and distance on her second appearance and looks set to deliver another strong performance. Richard Hughes’ Les Bleus also heads into the race with confidence after a recent triumph at Newmarket.

The collection of eight fillies heading to post for this Group Three contest is completed by Jonathan Portman’s Cry Fiction – an intriguing addition that adds further excitement and unpredictability to what promises to be an exhilarating race day.

    Intrigue Awaits!

The Molson Coors Sweet Solera Stakes provides a captivating opportunity for these talented fillies vying for glory on such prestigious grounds. With each horse bringing their unique strengths and aspirations into play, only time will reveal who will take home the coveted title. Don’t miss out on this thrilling spectacle!
