Jonbon and Shishkin have a delightful day out

Jonbon and Shishkin Prepare for Upcoming Races

In a thrilling gallop session at Windsor on Tuesday, Jonbon and Shishkin showcased their talents alongside other Nicky Henderson-trained horses. This small but mighty team is gearing up for their respective targets next month.

Jonbon, eagerly anticipated by fans, is set to make his comeback in the highly-anticipated Shloer Chase at Cheltenham’s Paddy Power meeting on November 19. Meanwhile, all eyes are on the talented Shishkin as he sets his sights on the Betfair Chase at Haydock on November 25.

Joining these two stars were Luccia, Chantry House, Dusart, and an exciting new addition named Excello from France. The gallop took place at the picturesque Thameside track which has already captured Henderson’s anticipation for its winter races starting from 2024 onwards.

“It was a remarkable morning,” expressed Henderson with excitement. “The ground conditions were beautiful. I even took a stroll around it while they were making changes – though it won’t be until next winter that we experience its true potential; I believe it will be truly fantastic.”

The contrast between perceptions of ground quality became evident during this session as yesterday’s flat race labeled it heavy whereas Henderson saw it as good to soft – what he considered lovely ground.

The six-strong group consisting of Shishkin, Jonbon, Dusart, Chantry House, Luccia and Excello had an enjoyable time without pushing any extraordinary limits; simply enjoying their day out together.

Henderson Shares Insights into Horses’ Progression

As Henderson offered his observations on the team’s development, he commented, “All our horses are making good progress. Many of them had grass workouts last weekend and they are all training well with positive results. They are nearly ready to hit the tracks.”

Reflecting on the change from last year’s conditions, which were compared to a road due to dryness, Henderson expressed satisfaction with the beautiful condition of their grass during last weekend’s workouts.

Henderson further revealed future plans for Jonbon and Shishkin. “We’re considering Haydock for Shishkin in the Betfair Chase while Jonbon may take part in the Shloer Chase,” he shared with anticipation.

However, one notable horse who remained at Seven Barrows was Constitution Hill. As his comeback target is set for December 2 and specifically aimed at Newcastle’s Fighting Fifth meeting, he has been given more time to prepare accordingly.
