Katie Boulter selected for Great Britain squad against Sweden in Billie Jean King Cup

Katie Boulter named in Great Britain squad for Billie Jean King Cup play-offs

In a surprising turn of events, British number one tennis player Katie Boulter has been selected to represent Great Britain in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup play-offs against Sweden on 11-12 November.

The stakes are high as Great Britain must secure victory to advance to the 2024 qualifiers and avoid being relegated to regional events. With their hopes hanging by a thread, team captain Anne Keothavong has called upon her most formidable players – Jodie Burrage, Harriet Dart, Heather Watson alongside world number 52 Boulter – to face this crucial challenge at the Copper Box Arena in London.

Disappointingly, Keothavong’s side fell short of securing a spot in the finals earlier this year after suffering a 3-1 defeat against France. However, fueled by their strong performance last year when they reached the semi-finals, Team GB is determined to keep their dreams alive by clinching victory once again and securing a place in the finals come 2024.

“I’m thrilled that our top-ranked players have made themselves available for selection,” expressed Keothavong with enthusiasm. “We are incredibly excited about playing before our home crowd once more at the Copper Box Arena. The unwavering support we received from our fans during our previous match there was instrumental in propelling us towards success.”

The last time Great Britain played a Billie Jean King Cup match at the Copper Box was in 2019, where they emerged victorious with a 3-1 win against Kazakhstan. This prestigious tournament, formerly known as the Fed Cup, underwent a name change in 2020 to honor tennis legend Billie Jean King.
