L’Homme Presse primed for thrilling Betfair Ascot Chase

L’Homme Presse set to take on Betfair Ascot Chase

Owner Andy Edwards has turned his sights to L’Homme Presse for this Saturday’s Betfair Ascot Chase at the prestigious Berkshire track. The nine-year-old gelding made a flawless comeback in last month’s Fleur De Lys Chase after recovering from a season-ending injury sustained during the 2022 King George VI Chase.

In that race, L’Homme Presse unseated his jockey Charlie Deutsch but showed great resilience in his recent victory against Protektorat with over two lengths distance between them. Trainer Venetia Williams and co-owners Peter and Patricia Pink gave him ample time to recover before lining up for the upcoming race at Ascot just 27 days later.

When asked about concerns regarding the “bounce factor,” where horses might struggle in their second run back after an absence, Edwards dismissed it as an irrelevant theory. He expressed confidence in L’Homme Presse’s ability to perform well and adapt to any challenges he may face.

“Everything has been fine with L’Homme Presse since Lingfield,” said Edwards. “His amazing comeback was truly thrilling for us, and now we hope he can build on that success starting this weekend in the Betfair Ascot Chase.”

The Cheltenham Gold Cup Dream Lives On

L’Homme Presse is currently priced at 8-1 for next month’s Cheltenham Gold Cup. The reigning champion, Galopin Des Champs, is the odds-on favorite to defend his title under Willie Mullins’ guidance. Despite acknowledging the challenge that lies ahead at the prestigious Cotswolds racecourse, Edwards remains determined and open to taking on this opportunity.

“To even be considered for a race of such caliber is an honor in itself,” stated Edwards. “Our goal is to give our best performance at Ascot this weekend and then hopefully seize our chance at Cheltenham.”

Edwards emphasized that no horse is unbeatable, especially in top-end races like the Gold Cup where numerous factors come into play, such as jumping ability, positioning during the race, and sheer luck. While respecting Galopin Des Champs’ undeniable talent and other strong contenders in the field, Edwards believes L’Homme Presse’s potential has yet to be fully realized.

“L’Homme Presse has only had three runs outside novice company so far, but each one has been nothing short of fantastic,” said Edwards confidently. “Despite his ‘U’ against his name from the King George VI Chase mishap, he showed immense determination on a track and ground that didn’t suit him.”

Athletic Grit Can Make All The Difference

One remarkable characteristic that sets L’Homme Presse apart is his unwavering attitude and refusal to accept defeat. It’s these qualities combined with his aptitude for racing that could potentially make all the difference on any given day.

In closing remarks about upcoming races involving other notable horses like Shishkin and Gerri Colombe among others, Edwards reminded everyone of past surprises witnessed in big races such as this season’s King George VI Chase.

“As I always say: keep your faith alive, believe in your horse, and savor the moment,” concluded Edwards with enthusiasm.
