Molecomb: The Next Challenge Awaiting Big Evs in Sports

Mick Appleby’s Big Evs Headed to Goodwood After Royal Ascot Victory

Mick Appleby’s colt, Big Evs, is set to make an appearance at Goodwood after a stunning win at Royal Ascot. Despite only having one previous race under his belt, the Blue Point colt delivered a commanding performance in the Windsor Castle Stakes.

Defying odds of 20-1, Big Evs triumphed over Aidan O’Brien’s favorite Johannes Brahms by an impressive three lengths. The victory has now paved the way for his next challenge – the Molecomb at Goodwood.

Appleby expressed his confidence in the horse, stating that he had high hopes for him based on his strong training sessions alongside Annaf, who finished third in the King’s Stand Stakes. While expecting a top-three finish from Big Evs, Appleby admitted that he did not anticipate such a dominant win.

The trainer received numerous congratulatory messages following the race and acknowledged that winning at Royal Ascot was every racing enthusiast’s dream come true.

Looking ahead to future races, Appleby confirmed that Big Evs would most likely participate in the Molecomb at Goodwood before making further decisions about his campaign. There is also a possibility of targeting York later in the season with either the Nunthorpe or Gimcrack Stakes.

Regarding potential distance challenges for Big Evs, Appleby pondered whether he could handle six furlongs but noted that there were no signs of fatigue during his victorious run at Ascot. The trainer believes that if they choose to compete in York’s Gimcrack Stakes instead of sticking to five furlongs for Nunthorpe, it may offer them an opportunity to test their colt over six furlongs.

Appleby also mentioned that despite receiving offers for Big Evs, the owner has no intention of selling him. This commitment to keeping the talented colt under his ownership is a testament to their belief in his potential.
