Mullins Contemplating Altering Strategy for Galopin des Champs

Willie Mullins is Considering a Tactical Shake-Up for Galopin Des Champs

Galopin Des Champs , the reigning champion of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, has recently faced defeat against Martin Brassil’s top contender, Fastorslow.

The Savills Chase Rivalry Continues at Leopardstown

Mullins’ star horse has been unable to outperform Fastorslow in their previous two encounters – first in the Punchestown Gold Cup last April and then again in last month’s John Durkan Chase. In their most recent contest, Galopin Des Champs finished third, trailing behind by a length-and-three-quarters.

In light of these results, Willie Mullins is contemplating a change of tactics for their upcoming face-off on December 28 at Leopardstown Racecourse.

Mullins Aims to Get Back on Track

Speaking about Galopin Des Champs’ disappointing performance in the John Durkan Chase, Mullins expressed his uncertainty regarding their tactical approach and hinted at potential changes for the upcoming race.

“I’m not sure we got the right tactics that day and we might change things around a bit for this race,” Mullins revealed. “I’m looking forward to it and seeing what he can do. I have confidence in him, especially over three miles.”

    A Test of Stamina

Mullins believes that Galopin Des Champs thrives in longer races like the Savills Chase as both he and Fastorslow excel over greater distances. The trainer views this event as an opportunity to learn more about his horse’s capabilities.

    Facile Vega’s Continuation Over Fences

Mullins is also counting on Facile Vega’s success in the Racing Post Novice Chase, which takes place on the opening day of Leopardstown’s four-day meeting. After an impressive debut over fences, Facile Vega is expected to go off as odds-on favorite in this race.

“Facile Vega was truly remarkable on his first outing,” said Mullins with enthusiasm. “He has immense talent when it comes to jumping obstacles. His stride is powerful and reminiscent of his mother Quevega – a legendary mare who achieved great success.”

    The Matheson Hurdle Dilemma

Mullins faces a decision regarding whether or not to enter both State Man and Impaire Et Passe into the Matheson Hurdle scheduled for December 29 at Leopardstown Racecourse.

    • State Man, victorious in the Morgiana upon his return, seems set to compete in the race. Mullins expresses satisfaction with State Man’s progress and looks forward to seeing him perform at a track he favors.
    • Impaire Et Passe, on the other hand, disappointed Mullins in the Hatton’s Grace at Fairyhouse. However, rather than losing faith, Mullins sees room for improvement by adjusting their tactics and shortening the distance to two miles for this event.

Mullins concludes by expressing his excitement for these upcoming races and his belief that they will provide valuable insights into each horse’s potential and capabilities.
