“I don’t know what level I’ll be playing at initially,” Osaka confessed. “It’s definitely going to be way more tournaments than I used to play. Perhaps some people will appreciate that change because honestly, I can’t predict how things will unfold for me in the beginning of next year.”
The 25-year-old tennis star believes that pushing herself now will set her up for success later on. She expressed missing competitive matches and watching them only fueling her desire even more.
“As I watched those matches unfold before my eyes, there was this burning feeling within me wishing that it was me out there competing,” said Osaka passionately. “But despite all these mixed emotions, being in this position and becoming a mother has truly ignited an intense fire within me.”
Osaka, known for her mental health advocacy, took the opportunity at Flushing Meadows to participate in a panel discussion on the subject. She has previously taken breaks from tennis to prioritize her mental well-being and openly shared her struggles.
