No British jumps racing scheduled for Tuesday due to icy track conditions

Freezing Weather Forces Abandonment of National Hunt Racing in Britain

The freezing temperatures have taken their toll on the National Hunt racing schedule in Britain, resulting in the abandonment of scheduled fixtures at Chepstow and Plumpton. Both racecourses were deemed unsuitable for racing due to frozen ground.

An early morning inspection was carried out at Chepstow, with officials making the decision to call off the races after temperatures plummeted below minus 6C overnight. Despite efforts to protect the course with frost sheets, it was not enough to ensure safe conditions for horse and jockey.

A similar situation unfolded at Plumpton, where a scheduled inspection was set for 8:30am. However, given that temperatures in Sussex also dropped to minus 6C during the night, officials made an early call around 6am to abandon the fixtures.

Newbury’s Chances Hang In The Balance

Newbury Racecourse remains hopeful about Wednesday’s race meeting but faces uncertainty as parts of the track were found frozen on Tuesday morning. A thorough inspection is scheduled for later today at 3pm to determine whether racing can proceed tomorrow. With another cold night forecasted ahead, hopes are hanging by a thread.

Precautionary Check At Southwell Ahead Of Wednesday Fixture

Southwell Racecourse has been given a green light for today’s fixture despite concerns over falling temperatures overnight. To ensure safety and avoid any potential issues caused by freezing conditions, a precautionary check has been called for Wednesday’s races at 8am.

Jumps Meeting At Newcastle Already Cancelled

This week’s jumps meeting at Newcastle has already fallen victim to freezing weather conditions following an early morning inspection on Tuesday.

Fairyhouse Card Subject to Noon Inspection

Fairyhouse’s scheduled race card for the same day is still uncertain, with a noon inspection planned on Wednesday. The course was declared unfit for racing after Tuesday morning’s assessment due to frosty conditions.

Brendan Sheridan, IHRB Clerk of the Course, commented on Fairyhouse Racecourse: “The track is currently unsuitable for racing due to overnight frost. Parts of the course are frozen following two consecutive nights of sub-zero temperatures. With temperatures not expected to rise significantly today and dropping again tonight, we will have a 12pm inspection tomorrow to assess the prospects of racing here at Fairyhouse on Thursday.”

    Conclusion

The freezing weather has caused havoc in British National Hunt racing as Chepstow and Plumpton had no choice but to abandon their fixtures due to frozen ground. Newbury awaits an afternoon inspection while Southwell takes precautions ahead of Wednesday’s races. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s jumps meeting has already been canceled and uncertainty looms over Fairyhouse’s race card pending a noon inspection tomorrow.
