Potential Classic Contender: King Of Steel Eyes Future Success in the Coming Year

Champion Stakes Winner King Of Steel Eyeing Breeders’ Cup Classic

In a surprising turn of events, Champion Stakes winner King Of Steel may be making his way back to America next year for the highly anticipated Breeders’ Cup Classic. The possibility was hinted at by trainer Roger Varian during a recent interview.

The decision-making process proved to be quite intriguing this time around, especially after King Of Steel’s impressive victory on Champions Day at Ascot. Owner Kia Joorabchian confessed that he felt tempted to aim for the prestigious dirt showpiece event.

However, discretion seemed to prevail over valor on this occasion, with only a mere two weeks separating the meetings at Ascot and Santa Anita. Instead of going all-in for the dirt showdown, it has been confirmed that King Of Steel will now compete in the Breeders’ Cup Turf over a distance of 12 furlongs.

This choice means that once again, he will face off against his Derby conqueror Auguste Rodin. It seems like fate cannot resist pitting these two talented horses against each other in another thrilling battle.

“He looks incredibly composed and unperturbed by everything happening around him,” said Varian about King Of Steel’s current state of mind. “He exudes an air of positivity and readiness to go again. Our initial instinct was not to travel with him, but upon closer examination, all signs point towards him being fit and prepared.”

The final decision regarding King Of Steel’s participation was left until the last possible moment. The horse’s superb condition and remarkable performance during training sessions convinced Varian that traveling to the Breeders’ Cup Turf would be a wise move.

“The Turf race has always been our primary target,” explained Varian. “King Of Steel managed to secure a victory at Ascot, but I’m certain he didn’t particularly enjoy the challenging conditions on that day.”

Looking ahead, Varian expressed his enthusiasm for considering the possibility of King Of Steel entering the Classic next season, as the talented colt will remain in training.
