Primoz Roglic edges out Jonas Vingegaard in stage 17 of Vuelta a Espana, Sepp Kuss maintains overall lead

Cycling Update: Roglic Wins Stage 17 as Kuss Retains Leader’s Jersey

In a thrilling battle between teammates, Primoz Roglic emerged victorious in stage 17 of the Vuelta a Espana. The Jumbo-Visma rider narrowly beat his teammate Jonas Vingegaard to clinch the win, while Sepp Kuss maintained his grip on the leader’s jersey.

As the riders tackled the challenging Angliru climb, Kuss struggled to keep up with his rivals. This allowed Vingegaard and Roglic to duel for the stage victory, with Roglic ultimately coming out on top.

Last year’s Vuelta winner Remco Evenepoel showcased his dominance on the Asturias route but couldn’t sustain his momentum until the end.

The foggy conditions made visibility difficult for Jumbo-Visma’s competitors, further adding to their challenges.

American rider Sepp Kuss managed to secure third place in this stage but saw his lead over Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard reduced from 29 seconds to just eight seconds after winning stage 16.

“I came here without any expectations and was solely focused on supporting my teammates like always. But wearing this prestigious jersey has given me newfound confidence and racing instinct,” said an elated Kuss, who has held onto the lead since stage eight.

Roglic currently sits one minute behind in third place overall as Jumbo-Visma continues its dominant performance throughout the grueling 21-stage race.

“Sepp retaining leadership is crucial for us, but we also want our riders to compete for individual victories. It was agreed that everyone would have a chance,” explained Grischa Niermann, team manager at Jumbo-Visma.
