Reynier praises impressive performance by Facteur Cheval at Ascot

Facteur Cheval Shines in Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot

In a thrilling display of determination, Facteur Cheval delivered an impressive second-place finish in the highly anticipated Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot. The French-bred gelding showcased his consistent form throughout the season and never finished outside of the top three.

Prior to his remarkable performance at Ascot, Facteur Cheval had participated in five Group-level races where he consistently finished within striking distance of victory. In these contests, he secured third place against Anmaat in Prix d’Ispahan, narrowly missed first position when runner-up to Paddington in the Sussex Stakes, and claimed another third place behind Sauterne in the Prix du Moulin.

The talented Big Rock emerged victorious during Facteur Cheval’s previous encounter with soft ground conditions – a factor that recurred during their face-off once again at Ascot. However, despite this challenging circumstance, Facteur Cheval admirably chased down Big Rock from last place to secure a commendable six-length lead ahead of other high-quality contenders.

Trainer Jerome Reynier expressed great satisfaction with his four-year-old charge as they concluded an outstanding campaign together. “It was simply fantastic,” exclaimed Reynier. “Although our positioning wasn’t ideal early on due to some obstacles we encountered along the way, Facteur Cheval showed tremendous courage by making up significant ground and surpassing Aga Khan’s filly, Tahiyra. It was an unbelievable feat.”

The taxing race left Reynier wondering if Facteur Cheval would manage to finish strong, but the resilient gelding proved to be a natural in soft ground conditions. “It feels like a victory because Big Rock seemed unstoppable. We did everything we could, and securing second place was the best outcome for us on that particular day,” Reynier further remarked.

Reflecting on the remarkable season thus far, Reynier expressed his gratitude for Facteur Cheval’s consistent performances despite not clinching a win this year. The trainer commended his charge’s achievements of finishing as runner-up in both the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Sussex Stakes, as well as claiming third place in Prix d’Ispahan and Prix du Moulin.

In anticipation of future successes, Facteur Cheval will now enjoy a well-deserved break over the winter period before embarking on new ventures in 2024. Potential destinations include Dubai and Newbury, with races such as the Dubai Turf and Lockinge mentioned as potential targets.

“Facteur Cheval has had an extraordinary campaign at four years old; he has displayed admirable consistency throughout,” highlighted Reynier. “We can’t wait to see him return rejuvenated next year and continue showcasing his abilities.”
