Aidan O’Brien Unveils Ambitious Three-Race Plan for Undefeated Colt River Tiber
In a bid to maintain the impressive winning streak of his star two-year-old, Aidan O’Brien has devised an intriguing three-race strategy for juvenile sensation River Tiber. The Wootton Bassett colt made an extraordinary debut at Navan in April, showcasing his exceptional ability by cruising to victory with a staggering 10-length margin. He then followed up this outstanding performance with another triumph at Naas the following month.
Building on these early successes, River Tiber delivered yet another sensational display at Royal Ascot in the Coventry Stakes. With an unblemished record and mounting excitement surrounding his potential, he is now being tipped as one of the frontrunners for next year’s Qipco 2000 Guineas.
However, before setting sights on future classics, O’Brien intends to keep River Tiber competing over six furlongs. The next target on their agenda is the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on August 12th – a race that promises to test their mettle against strong competition.
“Everything is going according to plan so far,” confirmed Ballydoyle handler Aidan O’Brien when discussing River Tiber’s progress. “Our current intention is to aim him towards the Heinz (Phoenix) Stakes at the Curragh.”
O’Brien further explained that they are allowing their talented colt some well-deserved rest but emphasized their commitment to keeping him within six-furlong races for now. If all goes smoothly in upcoming events, they will consider stepping him up to seven furlongs in the National Stakes.
The ambitious trainer also revealed that should success continue following the National Stakes, the ultimate goal would be to participate in the prestigious Dewhurst. These three races – The Heinz (Phoenix) Stakes, The National Stakes, and The Dewhurst – form River Tiber’s current race program.
However, O’Brien acknowledges that plans can change rapidly in horse racing due to unforeseen circumstances and unexpected developments.
