Tabor excited about taking on the Eclipse challenge alongside Paddington

Paddington vs. Emily Upjohn: A Thrilling Showdown at the Coral-Eclipse

In what promises to be a captivating battle, part-owner Michael Tabor is eagerly awaiting the clash between Paddington and Emily Upjohn in the upcoming Coral-Eclipse at Sandown this Saturday. This contest will see Paddington step up to 10 furlongs for the first time, following his impressive victories in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes. On the other hand, Emily Upjohn, a year older than her rival, will be dropping back from a mile and a half after triumphing in the Coronation Cup at Epsom last month.

Paddington has been an exceptional performer under trainer Aidan O’Brien with five wins out of six races. The weight advantage could prove vital for him as he receives 7lb from Emily Upjohn. Reflecting on this advantage, Tabor states that it is indeed significant but acknowledges that being only three years old compared to four-year-old Emily Upjohn might balance things out due to her greater strength.

Tabor co-owns Paddington along with John Magnier, Derrick Smith, Westerberg and Peter Brant—except for Peter Brant who isn’t involved—and they are all excited about their contender’s prospects in this prestigious race.

The Enigmatic Luxembourg: An Uncertain Participant

Another horse owned by Tabor’s syndicate named Luxembourg is also entered in the Eclipse race; however, his participation remains uncertain. After winning the Tattersalls Gold Cup and finishing second in Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot recently, Luxembourg currently sits at odds of 20-1 for victory at Sandown.

Tabor reveals that he hasn’t yet discussed running plans with Aidan O’Brien or the other owners, John Magnier and Derrick Smith. The focus has primarily been on Paddington as he is their primary contender, but Tabor acknowledges Luxembourg’s talent and predicts that he will have his moment of glory soon.

When asked about Aidan O’Brien’s decision regarding Luxembourg’s participation in the race, Tabor explains that they always discuss it with the trainer before making a final call. O’Brien carefully evaluates various factors before determining which race suits each horse best.

    Intriguing Times Ahead

The Coral-Eclipse promises to be a riveting showdown between two exceptional horses—Paddington and Emily Upjohn. With Paddington stepping up in distance for the first time and receiving weight advantage against older mare Emily Upjohn, this spectacle is set to captivate racing enthusiasts worldwide. While uncertainties loom around Luxembourg’s participation, one thing remains certain: exciting times lie ahead in this prestigious event at Sandown.
