The Final Gallop: Frankie Dettori’s Last Dance at Flemington

The Great Frankie Dettori to Compete at Flemington for One Last Time in November

The horse racing world is set for a historic moment as the legendary jockey, Frankie Dettori, announces his intention to extend his farewell tour by competing at the Melbourne Cup Carnival this coming November. This announcement follows an impressive performance from him in Royal Ascot where he won four races including the coveted Gold Cup.

Dettori has decided that he will retire from professional horse racing at the end of this year but not before making one last appearance on Australian turf. He plans on participating in three races during his visit: Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on November 7th, Kennedy Oaks Day on November 9th, and TAB Champions Stakes Day on November 11th.

This year’s carnival marks a special occasion as it commemorates the 30th anniversary of Dettori’s debut ride aboard Drum Taps. Although he’s never won the much-coveted Melbourne cup trophy before, with two second-place finishes under his belt (Central Park in 1999 and Max Dynamite in 2015), there is no doubt that he’ll be giving it all – seeking to finish off his career with a bang!

“I have achieved all there is to achieve in horse racing and have had a fantastic career,” said Dettori. “But the Melbourne cup has always been one race that I would love to win.”

A Fitting Farewell Awaits The Jockey Extraordinaire

Steve Rosich – CEO Victoria Racing Club expressed delight over bringing such an esteemed personality back again to Flemington for one last time.

“Frankie Dettori is one of the best jockeys and personalities the sport has ever seen, and the VRC is thrilled to be giving him a fitting farewell at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival,” said Rosich.

A Race that Stops A Nation

The Melbourne Cup is an iconic horse race that draws thousands of enthusiasts from around Australia and beyond. It’s a race that every jockey wants to win, as it offers not only prestige but also significant financial rewards.

“The Melbourne cup is a race that jockeys across Australia and the world want to win,” added Rosich. “Preparations for this year’s carnival are well underway, and racegoers can look forward to another week of world-class racing, hospitality, and entertainment.”
