Trackhouse Owner Reveals MotoGP’s Plans for Second Race in the US

MotoGP’s Expansion into America: Trackhouse Takes Over Vacant Grid Slots

RNF Racing Collapse Paves the Way for Trackhouse in MotoGP

Following the unfortunate collapse of RNF Racing at the end of the thrilling 2023 MotoGP season, there is a new contender on the grid. NASCAR outfit Trackhouse, owned by entrepreneur Marks and renowned musician Pitbull, has taken over the vacant grid slots left behind by the Malaysian squad.

MotoGP Looks to Expand its Presence in America

The introduction of Trackhouse to MotoGP comes as part of an effort to expand and rejuvenate interest in the series within America. In recent years, MotoGP has struggled to maintain its popularity due to limited presence in US territories. While multiple races were held in America back in 2015 with COTA and Indianapolis on the calendar, there has been a decline since then.

In an exclusive interview with Motorsport.com*, Marks revealed that Dorna Sports is actively working towards adding another grand prix event in America. However, he acknowledges that finding suitable circuits capable of hosting such events remains a challenge.

“Just Announcing a New Circuit Would Make MotoGP Shine,” Says Marks

Marks states, “America is vast, and having more than one grand prix would undoubtedly help boost interest and excitement for fans. Simply announcing and promoting a new circuit can make all the difference. People are naturally attracted to fresh experiences they haven’t seen before.” He commends Dorna Sports’ efforts but admits the limited options available.

“In the United States, we boast fantastic facilities, but most of them are primarily designed for car racing,” Marks explains. “However, there are a couple of circuits currently under construction that meet the MotoGP standard. It might not happen right away, but these tracks have great potential to make it possible.”

Exploring New Circuits: Westel and Flatrock Motorsport Park

In recent years, Dorna officials have been actively exploring potential candidates capable of hosting a MotoGP test event. One such visit took place in Westel, located just two hours from Nashville, Tennessee. Here lies the ambitious project known as Flatrock Motorsport Park.

The ongoing construction work at Flatrock Motorsport Park is expected to cost approximately €91 million and should be completed by 2024 with hopes to join the prestigious MotoGP calendar soon after. In fact, promoters of this circuit have already signed a letter of intent with Dorna Sports expressing their desire to host future events.

The collaboration between Wright Brothers Construction firm and Hermann Tilke’s group ensures top-notch infrastructure development aimed at securing Grade II certification from the International Automobile Federation (FIA). This will enable them to accommodate various competitions while excluding Formula 1 races from their plans.
