Tragic Loss Strikes Hobbs Team with the Passing of Thyme Hill

Thyme Hill: A Tragic Loss in the Racing World

In a devastating turn of events, Thyme Hill, the magnificent Grade One winner, has tragically passed away after sustaining a fatal injury during his training session on the gallops.

The nine-year-old gelding had an illustrious career under trainer Philip Hobbs, capturing victory three times at the highest level. His triumphs included winning the prestigious Challow Hurdle in 2019 and securing victories at both the Aintree Hurdle and Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton last Christmas.

With high hopes for another successful season after finishing fourth in his seasonal reappearance at Wetherby earlier this month, Thyme Hill was being prepared for the highly anticipated Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury scheduled for next week. It is worth noting that he had previously defeated Paisley Park in this race three years ago – a significant feat.

The news of Thyme Hill’s sudden demise has left his connections grieving over their loss. John White, who recently joined Hobbs as part of his training team, expressed deep sadness and said, “It’s heart-wrenching for everyone involved with our stable. Thyme Hill has been remarkable for some truly wonderful owners and took them on an incredible journey. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have had him.”

Racing enthusiasts were eagerly looking forward to seeing Thyme Hill back on track following his recent run at Wetherby which showed promise despite not landing a victory. However, tragedy struck during a routine training session this morning, leaving the entire yard devastated.

White continued, “We were preparing him for the Newbury race on December 1st. Unfortunately, while doing regular work this morning, an unforeseen incident occurred. It’s truly heartbreaking.”

The loss of Thyme Hill has left a significant void in the stable as he had been their flagship horse for several years. White remains hopeful that they have talented young horses who can fill his shoes but acknowledges that replacing such an exceptional athlete will be no easy task.

This news comes as a shock to not only Thyme Hill’s connections but also to racing fans all around the world. The legacy and achievements of this extraordinary horse will forever be remembered and cherished by those whose lives he touched on his incredible journey through the racing circuit.
