Twilight Calls set to make an appearance at Nunthorpe

Twilight Calls Set to Make a Mark in York’s Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes

The stage is set for an electrifying showdown at York’s prestigious Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes later this month, and one horse that has caught everyone’s attention is Twilight Calls. Trained by Henry Candy, this five-year-old sprinter may not have claimed victory at the Group level just yet, but he has certainly proven his mettle against top-quality competition over the past couple of seasons.

In 2022, Twilight Calls finished as the runner-up in the King’s Stand Stakes and showcased his full potential at Royal Ascot this year. Despite encountering some unfortunate obstacles during the race, he managed to secure an impressive fourth place finish, falling just three-and-a-quarter lengths behind the winner. With such a strong performance under his belt, expectations are high for Twilight Calls.

Unfortunately, challenging conditions prevented him from participating in the King George Stakes at Goodwood. However, Candy has now set his sights on the Knavesmire Group One on August 25th where he plans to unleash Twilight Calls among other talented speedsters vying for glory. It is worth noting that Candy previously tasted success in this very race back in 2002 with Kyllachy – Twilight Call’s grandsire.

“The ground wasn’t suitable for him at Goodwood,” said Chris Richardson, managing director of Cheveley Park Stud which owns Twilight Calls. “So our focus will be on York instead followed by considering Ireland for the five-furlong Flying Five.”

Richardson further emphasized their belief in Twilight Call’s abilities and highlighted how luck often plays a crucial role: “We know he possesses exceptional talent; all he needs is everything to align perfectly. Royal Ascot was a heart-wrenching experience as Ryan Moore, his jockey, acknowledged the troubles he faced on the track. Twilight Calls is a horse that thrives on luck being in his favor, but unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out that way.”

Loyal fans of Twilight Calls have been thoroughly entertained by his performances and also appreciate how much he contributes to promoting sire Twilight Son’s lineage. As such, their main focus now lies with York.

As this talented sprinter prepares to make his mark at one of the most highly anticipated races of the year, all eyes will be on Twilight Calls as he strives for victory and aims to cement his place among racing’s elite.
