    Dan Evans Suffers Shock Defeat in Surbiton Trophy

    British tennis player Dan Evans’ grass-court campaign started on a sour note as he faced an unexpected loss against Canada’s Gabriel Diallo, ranked 146th in the world. The match saw Evans losing by 7-5 and 6-2 in the second round of the Surbiton Trophy.

    The early exit from French Open had compelled top seed Evans to begin his Wimbledon preparations at the south London Challenger event. Andy Murray, who is seeded second, will play his quarter-finals game on Saturday.

    In other matches held on Thursday, British women players Katie Boulter and Lily Miyazaki advanced into the quarterfinals with mixed results. Boulter overcame Sonay Kartal by defeating her 3-6 6-3 6-4 while Miyazaki won her match against Eden Silva by securing a score of 6-4 and 7-5. Isabelle Lacy progressed without playing after Sachia Vickery withdrew from their match while Katie Swan won after Oceane Dodin retired injured with Briton leading at five games to three in first set.

    However, Harriet Dart was not able to hold up against Germany’s Tatjana Maria and lost her match by scores of 6-4, six-seven (five-seven), six-four respectively.
