US Open 2023 update: John Isner’s singles journey ends with a loss, while Michael Mmoh advances

John Isner’s Farewell at the US Open

In a stunning turn of events, John Isner bid adieu to his professional singles career in a nail-biting five-set match against fellow American Michael Mmoh during the second round of the US Open.

The 38-year-old Isner fought valiantly but ultimately fell short, losing with scores of 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, and an intense fifth-set tie-break that saw Mmoh make an incredible comeback from match point down.

The spectators were left breathless as they witnessed this epic clash, and even Isner himself struggled to hold back tears at the end. “It’s tough,” he admitted. “I always give it my all on the court. This is why I’ve dedicated my entire life to this sport – to experience moments like these.”

“Of course, victories are not guaranteed; we all know that. But playing in front of such an electric crowd and receiving their unwavering support is truly special. So thank you,” he expressed gratefully.

This may not be the last time we see Isner competing at the US Open though as he gears up for doubles action alongside Jack Sock later today when they face Albano Olivetti and Robert Galloway.
