Vingegaard Claims Victory in Stage 13 of Vuelta a Espana as Evenepoel’s Chances Diminish

Tour de France Winner Vingegaard Claims Stage 13 Victory on Col du Tourmalet

In a thrilling display of strength and determination, Jonas Vingegaard, the talented Danish cyclist, emerged victorious in stage 13 of the Tour de France. The iconic climb up Col du Tourmalet witnessed his triumphant finish, solidifying Jumbo-Visma’s dominance in the Vuelta a Espana.

At just 26 years old, Vingegaard showcased his incredible talent by outperforming his rivals on the grueling summit ascent. Joining him on the podium were his exceptional teammates Sepp Kuss and Primoz Roglic.

Kuss, aged 28, continues to lead the overall standings with an impressive performance throughout the race. Accompanying him within the top three are fellow teammate Roglic at 33 years old and Vingegaard himself.

The defending champion Remco Evenepoel initially held third place but faced disappointment during this mountainous stage spanning over 135km. As he struggled to keep up with his competitors on the challenging climb towards Col d’Aubisque summit, Evenepoel fell out of contention for victory.

Prior to stage 13, Soudal Quick-Step rider Evenepoel trailed behind Kuss by one minute and nine seconds. Spanish cyclist Marc Soler stood second at only 26 seconds from Kuss’ lead. However, as fate would have it, Evenepoel suffered greatly during this demanding leg of the race and finished over 27 minutes behind Vingegaard.

The route from Formigal featured three arduous climbs before culminating in a thrilling final ascent leading to Tourmalet’s first-ever summit finish in La Vuelta history – an awe-inspiring location nestled on the Spanish-French border. This legendary mountain pass is renowned among avid Tour de France enthusiasts.

As the final climb approached, all three Jumbo-Visma riders found themselves part of the leading group. It was Vingegaard who ultimately made a decisive break with just 8km left in the race, securing his first-ever stage win in La Vuelta on only his second appearance.

Kuss followed suit, crossing the finish line 30 seconds later. Roglic, hailing from Slovenia and another remarkable member of Team Jumbo-Visma, trailed by an additional three seconds. The Dutch team’s impressive performance aims to make history by becoming the first to conquer all three Grand Tours within a single season.

Roglic previously claimed victory at Giro d’Italia in May while Vingegaard triumphed as reigning champion in this year’s Tour de France held in July.
