Wimbledon 2023: Jodie Burrage’s Defeat on Centre Court against Daria Kasatkina

British Jodie Burrage Overwhelmed in Wimbledon Debut

Jodie Burrage’s highly anticipated Centre Court debut at Wimbledon left her feeling overwhelmed as she faced a defeat against the formidable Daria Kasatkina, the 11th seed. Despite securing her first win at the All England Club just a day earlier, Burrage struggled to find her footing and lost with scores of 6-0 and 6-2 in round two.

The British number two had a challenging start, winning only seven points in an incredibly quick opening set that lasted for just around 19 minutes. Although Burrage managed to break early in the second set, a rain delay disrupted her momentum. Upon their return to the court, Kasatkina dominated by winning five consecutive games and secured herself a spot in the last 32.

Burrage was among seven British players scheduled to compete on Wednesday following Tuesday’s rain interruptions which forced most matches to be postponed. However, even on day three of the championships, rain caused further delays with play starting almost two hours later than planned.
