Aston Villa land Norway defender from Juventus
Aston Villa have signed Norway international defender Mathilde Harviken from Juventus, adding a Champions League-experienced player to their Women’s Super League squad.
Harviken’s route to Villa
Harviken joined Juventus in January 2025 and made almost 50 appearances for the Italian club. She featured in the Women’s Champions League during her time there.
She helped Juventus win the Serie A title and Coppa Italia in the 2024-25 season. The club also won the inaugural Serie A Women’s Cup in 2025 with her in the squad.
The 24-year-old began her career in Norway with FL Fart and Roa IL. She later joined Rosenborg in 2022.
At Rosenborg, Harviken made over 80 appearances. She made her senior Norway debut in 2022 after progressing through the youth ranks.
Harviken was part of the Norway squads at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. She also featured in the Euro 2025 squad.
Reactions to the move
“It’s a really good opportunity to join a club with such a big history,” Harviken said on her move to the WSL. “There are great facilities here and everything you need to perform and continue developing as a player.”
Aston Villa’s director of women’s football Marisa Ewers said the club had tracked the defender for over two years. “Mathilde is a player we’ve been tracking for over two years and we’ve been consistently impressed by her development,” Ewers said.
“She has a lot of experience for her age and we believe she has all the attributes to make an impact here and continue developing. We’re excited to see what she can bring to the team.”
