Birmingham City add Canada defender in busy week
Birmingham City have signed Canada international Marie Levasseur, their fourth arrival this week. The Women’s Super League newcomers also brought in Jade Rastocle, Millie Turner and Lisa Naalsund.
Levasseur’s move from Montpellier
The 29-year-old defender joins from Montpellier. She made 63 appearances for the French club across three seasons.
Levasseur’s path to the WSL
Levasseur previously played for FC Fleury, Metz and ONS Oulu after representing the University of Memphis team. She has 18 caps for Canada and made her senior debut in 2015 after progressing through the country’s youth teams.
“I’ve always wanted to play in the WSL. I think it’s one of the best leagues nowadays on the women’s side,” Levasseur said. She added that talks with the coach and staff showed her a project and team identity that spoke to her.
Manager backs new signing
Birmingham manager Amy Merricks said, “Marie’s mentality really stood out throughout the recruitment process.” Merricks noted that Levasseur wanted to challenge herself and believed in the build.
“She believed in what we’re building and she was excited by the opportunity to be part of this next chapter,” Merricks said. “She fits the identity we’re building and we’re excited to see the impact she’ll make.”
