Ederson Stays at Atalanta After United Transfer Collapses
Ederson has signed a contract extension at Atalanta after Manchester United withdrew from a agreed £35m transfer because of a medical issue. The Brazil midfielder was 27 when United reached terms with the Serie A club on 2 June.
How the Move Unraveled
A medical planned for early July was scrapped after Ederson received a late Brazil World Cup call-up when Wesley suffered an injury. Initial tests in the United States flagged an area of concern, and Ederson later flew to England for required examinations following Brazil’s last-16 defeat by Norway.
Specialists were involved in the testing, and their findings led United to back out of the deal. Sources had indicated the transfer could be revived later in the summer at different terms, but Atalanta have now secured the player on a new contract.
United’s Midfield Additions
Atalanta did not disclose the length of Ederson’s renewed agreement. Manchester United, under Michael Carrick, have instead added midfielders Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea, plus goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Leeds United.
