Birmingham strengthen defence with Rastocle signing
Birmingham City have signed French centre-back Jade Rastocle from Montpellier for an undisclosed fee. The move adds to a defensive rebuild ahead of the club’s return to the top flight.
Rastocle’s profile and arrival
The 22-year-old joined Premiere Ligue side Montpellier in 2024. She made 42 appearances and scored once for the club.
Rastocle has represented France at youth level and previously played for Reims. She also featured for France Under-23s against England.
“I’m very happy to be here. I can see the ambitions of the club, the city and I know it’s a historic club,” Rastocle said. “For me it’s an unbelievable and very big opportunity to play here.”
Coach backs young defender
Blues head coach Amy Merricks pointed to Rastocle’s record in France as a key reason for the move. “Jade is a young defender with excellent experience for her age. She has shown her quality over several seasons in one of Europe’s strongest leagues,” Merricks added.
“We believe she’ll fit our style of play really well, and we’re looking forward to seeing her continue to develop with us.” Birmingham also signed defender Millie Turner and midfielder Lisa Naalsund from Manchester United on Wednesday.
Back in the top flight
Birmingham won the WSL 2 title last season. The championship ended a five-year absence from the Women’s Super League.
