Hearts Replace Schwolow With Free-Agent Reus
Heart of Midlothian will lose goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow to German side Mainz on 1 August and have already secured his replacement in Dutchman Beau Reus. Schwolow, 34, returns to his native Germany after one season at Tynecastle, departing for an undisclosed fee following a request to move closer to home.
Schwolow’s Single Season In Edinburgh
The former Freiburg and Hertha Berlin keeper made 33 appearances for the Edinburgh club. He kept 15 clean sheets as they finished runners-up in the Scottish Premiership.
Hearts described Schwolow as a “much-valued member of the squad” but confirmed they agreed to his request to leave.
Reus Arrives From Belgium
Reus, 24, joins as a free agent on a three-year contract. He spent the past four campaigns with Belgian side Beveren.
Standing at 6ft 6in, the goalkeeper helped Beveren win the second-tier Challenger Pro League title last term.
Goalkeeping Depth Under New Coach
With Craig Gordon retiring, Liam McFarlane joining Partick Thistle on loan and Harry Stone at Ayr United on loan, Ryan Fulton and Zander Clark remain the other first-team-experienced goalkeepers available to new head coach Wouter Vrancken.
