Alcaraz targets Cincinnati return after injury layoff
Carlos Alcaraz has entered the Cincinnati Open as he prepares to return from a wrist injury that has kept him off the tour since April.
The 23-year-old Spaniard is a seven-time Grand Slam champion.
He is currently ranked world number three.
This will be his first tournament since withdrawing from the Barcelona Open nearly four months ago.
The injury forced Alcaraz to miss the French Open, where he was the defending champion, and Wimbledon, where Jannik Sinner retained his title this month.
Tournament organisers have confirmed that Alcaraz will defend his Cincinnati title.
The event is an ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
It runs from August 13 to 23.
All matches will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Alcaraz claimed last year’s Cincinnati trophy after Sinner retired during the final.
He will be eager to rebuild momentum ahead of his US Open title defence in September.
Jannik Sinner, the world number one, will also feature in Cincinnati.
He has won all five ATP Masters 1000 events contested this year.
The Italian became the first man from his country to win a Wimbledon singles title when he defeated Alcaraz in last year’s final.
He recently joined an elite group of players to retain the All England Club crown in the professional era.
