Castleford secure double signing for 2027 campaign
Castleford Tigers have confirmed the captures of St George Illawarra full-back Tyrell Sloan and Halifax winger Alfie Johnson on two-year deals beginning in 2027. The West Yorkshire club continues its recruitment drive under head coach Ryan Carr, adding NRL experience and athletic versatility to a squad already bolstered by the impending arrivals of Damien Cook and Mat Feagai from the Dragons.
Sloan arrives with an impressive resume, having crossed for 53 tries in 89 appearances for St George since his debut. The 24-year-old has maintained strong form this season, touching down six times. He has done so in just ten NRL outings. His combination of genuine speed and instinctive playmaking from the back has long attracted Carr’s admiration, dating back to their time together in Australia.
Johnson provides a different dimension on the wing. The 25-year-old former Warrington Wolves player represented England in rugby sevens before making a full-time switch to league with Halifax in 2024. His sevens background suggests exceptional pace and evasive running, attributes that should translate well to Super League’s wider channels.
Carr welcomes familiar face to Wheldon Road
“We’re extremely excited to welcome Sloany to the club,” Carr told the club’s official channels. “I’ve known him for a long time and have built a great relationship with him, so I know exactly what he’ll bring to our group. He is a naturally gifted player with genuine speed and an X-factor that will thrive in this competition.” The reunion with Cook and Feagai further strengthens the Australian contingent Carr is assembling for his first full season in charge.
