Ortiz Reaches Settlement With Golden Boy
Vergil Ortiz Jr. will remain with Golden Boy Promotions after the sidelined welterweight contender reached a settlement with the company. The 28-year-old had been expected to face Jaron “Boots” Ennis before promotional issues derailed those plans, but both sides have now resolved their differences.
Ennis Fight Remains Primary Target
“I’m excited to move forward and make the biggest fights happen, including the Ennis fight,” Ortiz said in a press release. “My only focus is on delivering unforgettable fights for the fans, and I know my team and I will accomplish that together.”
Ennis improved to 36-0 with 32 knockouts. He stopped Xander Zayas in seven rounds on June 27 to claim the WBA and WBO super welterweight titles. The victory significantly raises the profile of a future collision.
Ortiz holds a 24-0 record with 22 knockouts. He last fought in November 2025, stopping Erickson Lubin inside two rounds.
